Gavin Ferguson is a Physician Associate with a career path shaped by two defining chapters: a decade in commercial construction as a Field Engineer, and seven years on the front lines of community mental health and substance use treatment in Northern Arizona. That combination is not accidental. It is the foundation of how he connects with patients in communities that have learned, often the hard way, not to trust the medical system.

His move into medicine was not strategic. It was personal. When his oldest daughter was born seriously ill, he experienced firsthand what so many of his future patients would describe: fear, helplessness, and no clear path forward. That moment changed the direction of his life. His entry into mental health and substance use treatment came by chance, but it stuck because the work matters and because he is good at it.

Gavin now brings that same commitment to his work with VEN Centers, where the population looks familiar: underserved, frequently overlooked, and carrying conditions that the broader healthcare system has largely failed to address. Hepatitis C is one of the few diseases in medicine that can be cured outright, and Gavin is part of a team making that cure accessible to people who would otherwise never reach it. That distinction, managing versus curing, is not lost on him, and it is what keeps the work meaningful.
